Rebuilding The Fallen Champions

Manchester City

This has not been a year Manchester City fans expected. The theatrical way in which they won the  English Premier League title last year, promised big things for them in future. But with the current season nearing an end, the campaign looks like a  disappointing one for City. Having lost their EPL crown to their rivals, Manchester United, with a mammoth 15 points gap, a change in squad members seems evident. With the Financial Fair Play just around the corner, any investment will have to be carefully analysed because a lot of effort needs to be put to reduce an already swollen up wage bill. The original big guns of Man City, Sinclair, Tevez, Dzeko, Barry, Lescott, Bridge, Santa Cruz, Nasri, etc. are all expected to leave this summer. Let’s take a look at possible summer transfers for Manchester City.

Edinson Cavani – Napoli

Cavani is one of the most sought out strikers in the world today. He has the power, speed and sharpness required for a top hit-man. He has been in brilliant form for some seasons now and City is targeting him to reduce workload on Aguero. With a £60 million price tag to his name, there are a pretty few clubs who can sign him. City may face a fight from Real Madrid, Chelsea and PSG, but they certainly have the financial power to lure the coveted Uruguayan.

Radamel Falcao – Atletico Madrid

Falcao is yet another top striker linked with City in the summer transfer window. Falcao is next only to Cristiano Ronaldo and Messi in terms of talent and finishing in-front of goal. With Atletico Madrid’s financial situation at the moment, they might be tempted to cash in their prized asset. Any clubs vying for his signature on their contracts are expected to part with a mammoth £50 million. City is keen to add attacking options and Falcao can be a deadly along with Aguero. The other cubs linked in such a high potential offer are Manchester United, Real Madrid and PSG.

Daniele De Rossi – Roma

De Rossi is one of the most dynamic midfielders in the world. Mancini has always been a fan of De Rossi . He has spent more than half of last summer trying to sign up the Italian. De Rossi can easily drop into a sweeper role, so it is perfect for Mancini, if he continues with the three-men formation experiment. De Rossi is expected to cost around £30 million if Roma agrees to sell him. Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, is also believed to sign the Italian.

Daniel Agger – Liverpool

Matija Nastasić has had a decent first season and will no doubt become a top-class defender someday, but his inexperience has been exposed at times. The ‘Dagger of Liverpool’ was targeted by Mancini last summer with a £22 million bid. But the bid was rejected. But with Liverpool failing to qualify for Europe once more, Mancini can get his man this time around. Agger is tough and is a no nonsense defender. He can bolster the City back line.
